Hey dudes Stencyl sucks the same arse that its supposedly kicking so id shut the f up if i were you. And Gamemaker has a lot more than just drag and drop. GM has an even better and wider-ranged script editor than your sucky Stencyl.

@ Rusky, He doesn't need to use it. Gamemaker can't be a gimmik of Stencyl because Gamemaker came out long before anybody even knew what the hell Stencyl WAS!

@ zx82, Mrsmes is not a wanna be nerd or a piece of shit, you are for saying that. He has not been posting nonsense and he's not a ten-year old! ages of gamemaker users range from teens to twenties, and i bet that stencyl ranges from playschool to preschool.

Oh and to all of you, Yoyogames doesn't have forum crashes or any of the other weaknesses that Stencyl does, so STFU

Although Stencyl IS way better then GM this article is outdated. Pencyl has been replaced by snippets and is now the graphics editor.

"The mood on the Stencyl forums seems positive as space is used more effectively than in Game Maker which has retained the same interface for a good number of years now."

Yeah, that's because GM's interface works perfectly.

I don't understand you people. I don't mind you wanting to create a new game design program, that's quite alright. But you don't have to be so pointlessly critical about GM simply because it is competition. I can't say that GM is definately better than Stencyl, because I would have nothing to base it on. But seriously, come on:

"Hopefully Stencyl will give Game Maker the kick up the arse it most certainly deserves"

Is this necessary? And why does GM deserve it? Is it because you can't take something? Are you trying to find reasons to turn people against GM?

Seriously. Start thinking like proper grown-up men and women and lighten up.

Actually, I don't think you have a point to make. You have never used Stencyl. It's not a gimmick, it's just another program to make games with. Why isn't Game Maker a gimmick of any random game library I show you? You can extend Stencyl by writing your own snippets.
Stencyl is also pretty capable. It may not have 3d support built-in, but since you can write snippets in Java you could most likely put in your own 3d engine. And by itself, it can do pretty much all the other things you've mentioned, except the online stuff, which should be available in later versions and (again) could be coded yourself in snippets. What makes Game Maker commercial quality and Stencyl not anyway? That depends on the creator's skill.
Game Maker can't be used on anything but Windows for now, and each platform they add will take plenty of work. Stencyl is written in Java, so it can, by default, be run on Windows, Mac, Linux, soon-to-be the iPhone (which I highly doubt Game Maker will be able to do anytime soon, since the iPhone SDK is Mac-only, while the iPhone processor actually supports Java bytecodes as native instructions).
Now, don't think I'm just blindly defending Stencyl, I just can't stand people who don't pay any attention to what they're flaming.

shut your trap, u just made a gimmick of game maker, and everyone knows Game Maker is better, for one, Game Maker has 3d functionality, support, but do u c that in stencyl, or pencyl, nope, and that's why Game Maker is larger, and more powerful, plus did I mention u can make and add, action libraries, and extensions, and of course even add them to Game Maker and toggle them on or off, these extend it's capability, now I bet u can't do that with stencyl, or pencyl, or what ever the hell u want to call, it and Game Maker can make:
1.A Fps(First Person Shooter)
2.A shooter(Horizontal, Vertical, Both)
3.A top down shooter
4.A platform game
5.A Sonic game
6.A Mario game
7.A Application(notepad, msn like program, paint, icon editor, did I mention a bot for a chat room, and a chat room, and a chat room with a very intelligent learning bot which acts very human)
8.Smart ai
9.Simulators
10.AI
11.Physics
Shall I go, on?
12.A clock(Digital, Analog)
13.A timer
14.A ISO game
15.A RPG(Role playing game)
16.MMORPG(Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game)
17.Puzzle Games
18.Maze Games
19.Adventure Games
20.Action Games
21.Racing
22.Q & A(Question & Answer Quiz)
I think I have made my point.
It can also make arcade games, like pinball, space invaders, commercial quality gaming, Mac support for the application, and games to be played on the Mac, Linux, Apple Mac, and moving along to the Iphone, and many other consoles and going know where but up.

We've bought a new server and are in the final stages of setting it up (just need to finish transferring the database over tomorrow). The new server has the added bonus of being faster to boot.
